Sean V.d. Westhuizen
Sean grew up in an interesting little town on the east side of Johannesburg called Benoni. He was a strange kid growing up but fortunately for him, his strangeness became useful over the years. He remembers creating images on his father’s prehistoric PC in the early nineties, using only a keyboard and a very primitive form of MS Paint. When he was twelve his parents immigrated to the US where he lived and went to school in California for a few months. Things didn’t go as planned so they returned to SA; and although it was only a short stay he attributes his preoccupation with brands and their advertising to this experience. This preoccupation plus the enjoyment he found in creating things steered him through high school to the University of Pretoria, where received a BA degree in Information Design. While completing his final year he was taken on as an intern at Ogilvy Brand Activation Jo’burg. Once completing the internship he worked there full-time for the next 5 years. In 2010 he joined the Red Lounge, set up by Coca-Cola to work on their campaign for the 2010 FIFA World Cup™. After the games he worked at OwenKessel for two years then moved to a small design company for a short stint as a creative director before becoming a part of Workbench. When Sean’s not working (or being super-dad) he’s at the gym, reading, watching movies or playing the piano.
